Any kind injury to our body, however small or large, can have a profound effect on our lives. What may seem like innocuous injury for most of us, could have devastating repercussions for another. Dreams are shattered by sheer bad luck and people lose their work and income due to poor acute management of the injury straight after the trauma and a lack of insight into how to best rehabilitate the injury.
At The Movement Clinic Sydney we take nothing for granted, as we look at every injury with fresh new eyes. We believe that every injured person deserves an individualised approach, where we need to find out what they want to get out of the Rehab, in order to go back to doing the one thing they absolutely love!
So really, REHAB is our middle name!
Regardless of your injury, from ACL reconstruction to severe spinal injuries, shoulder injuries, chronic conditions or simply “doing your back in”, we are there to figure out the most efficient way to get you out of the rut and devise a program to get you back to what you want to do at the level you want. Our team of Physiotherapists, Exercise Physiologists and Remedial Massage therapists are there to support you along the way.
Our clinic is located inside the Fitness First gym in Castle Towers, which is a perfect set-up for our pro-active gym-based Rehab philosophy. We have access to all the facilities in the gym, which allows our therapists to aim for the best possible performance outcomes for all our patients. Our aim is to get our patients used to an active rehab-attitude as early as possible, in order to teach them a can-do mentality and get rid of fear-avoidance behaviour. We provide exercises for patients of any age and for any fitness level, in a safe environment.
We follow a set process of rehab phases, where we use a wide variety of personalised treatment techniques and exercises to tailor to everyone’s individual needs.
Straight after an injury, when the acute traumatic phase of the affected body part has been resolved and the initial emergency repair to the issue has been finalised, you slowly might start think that you are ready to get up and going again.
You could not be more wrong and further from the truth!
Your body’s tissue might have survived the initial shock, but it’s far from ready to support you in all your movements again. You can compare it to getting hit hard in the head and immediately afterwards trying to solve Einstein’s Relativity theory. Exactly, simply impossible!
Rest and passive treatments are fine for a short period time, to get through the initial shock of trauma or post-op surgery phase, but after that you will need to start moving the affected tissue, to improve circulation and allow the fibres to re-model. If you do not rehabilitate the injured tissue or surgically repaired tissue with exercise, you will be left with weak, non-remodelled scar tissue which is vulnerable and inefficient in function and it will fail in the future causing re-injury.
In order to get a satisfactory outcome, you’re Rehab program needs to:
We will guide your progression at the right pace, challenging you all the way to full recovery at the desired performance level, when you will be cleared to return to work or sports activity and get you moving again! A maintenance program can be developed for you for ongoing injury prevention to keep you moving.
Because at The Movement Clinic Sydney, we have THE POWER TO MOVE YOU
Surgery is often a last resort to fix something that is simply not healing in someone’s body. The injury is either too severe to heal on its own, would prevent someone from doing the things they love ever again, or has been bothering for such a long time that it’s now seriously affecting his or her everyday life.
So surgery almost always comes as a relief and tends to give the injured person the impression, that the worst will be over once they wake up from their anaesthetic slumber. Well, nothing could be further from the truth..
The hard bit starts straight after that beautiful slumber wears off and reality kicks in. The broken bit is fixed, but now the whole thing doesn’t work the way it did before anymore! And that is when your Rehab starts and you find it difficult to navigate your way back to the promise of a care-free, pain-free, unlimited active lifestyle.
That’s when we move in.
Whether you popped your ACL at football, fell from the stairs and broke your hip, tore your disc when you picked up that heavy eski, or fragmented your elbow in a few pieces when that skateboard trick went wrong, we are there for you!
We have seen every imaginable injury under the sun and work with the best surgeons in the area to get you back to your old life as quick and safe as possible.
But, you will have to work hard! We are a demanding team of Movement Specialists that will strive to get the best results possible out of you, but it’s not going to come easy. We will be there for you when you feel frustrated, useless and lost and get you through those dark moments, but we are going to honest about what is required to get back to where you want to get. We’ve got your back and our Rehab treatments are going to give you the confidence to keep going.
Our set-up in the gym allows us to challenge you, every single session again, with the aim of making you feel good about yourself. It could be something as simple as succeeding in doing that first rotation on an exercise bike after a knee-reconstruction, or the realisation that your shoulder can finally move that cable into a tennis-service position. Every person has their own goals and challenges and we are very good at identifying what YOU need to get the progress you need.
Most of our post-op patients have returned to what they love doing best and many have returned to leading healthy active lives. That is what we do!
